I first read this in high school as a big D&D player and enjoyed it, but somewhere in the last 30 years lost my hardback copy. I was glad to see it available finally on Kindle. It's a great read but is more mystery/suspense than fantasy. Having lived thru the whole Satanism/demonic scare of the 80's as a D&D player (and came out a normal, respected citizen, father of 3 amazing kids, and a devoted Christian who still loves fantasy and video games lol) I could relate to the psychological aspects of the story. Nice trip of nostalgia.

Bought this years ago, thinking it was fantasy, but it's mainly horror. Nothing exciting happens in the first half, then it picks up, but never getting real scary. Often Hobgoblin is compared to Mazes and Monsters, but coincidentally, both were published the same year (and perpetuated the stereotype that Dungeons and Dragons players were insane, hahahaha). Hobgoblin differs from M&M with its Irish characters/mythology and horror aspects.

Read this book in middle school and loved it so much I hunted down a used copy here. While it wasn't very much like I remembered (and the game described in the book is downright stupid) I still enjoyed rereading it on a plane a few weeks ago.

I love this book and was very happy with the copy i was sent. it was just as I was told and I cant wait to re-read it! I have started a shelf of just my favorites from the past and I can now check this one as "got"!!!

I read this when it was first published and I still enjoy the whole story. Lots of good twists. Interesting view of the games that were so big back then, and yes I was a player with a level 91 Archmage in D&D.

Excellent book. Very entertaining. I read it when I was a kid and I was happy to find it here.

When I first read this some 30 or so years ago, I remember it being a much more horrifying story. I still really enjoyed it as an adult, though there were a few things that really could have been better:1) I didn't understand why any girl would be interested in Scott. The kid had so many cringe worthy scenes of immaturity that I couldn't figure out why Valerie even gave him the time of day.2) There is a scene where Valerie is basically assaulted, tied up, and left naked in a cemetery. After this, the main characters try to decide what the right course of action to take might be. They almost immediately throw out the idea of getting the police involved. What?!3) Barbara's death just kind of ... happened. She was probably the character I respected the most, and when she was killed off I would have quit the book, had it not been nearly finished.

read this from when i was in high school. good book and more violent then i remember
